Vénéré is the past participle of vénérer ('to venerate, to revere') used as an adjective, often applied to religious figures, ancestors, or respected leaders. Un maître vénéré ('a revered master') is a common phrase. The verb itself comes from Latin venerari and is related to vénération ('veneration').
