Usage Note

accordé as a noun is an old or dialectal word for a person bound by a promise of marriage, that is, a fiancé; the feminine accordée is the betrothed woman. In modern French fiancé and fiancée are standard instead. The form survives in cultural references such as Greuze's painting L'Accordée de village.
