Usage Note

Yen is the standard French word for the Japanese currency and is invariable in the plural — cent yens not cents yens. As a masculine noun it takes the article le yen. In financial journalism the abbreviation JPY or the symbol ¥ is used. The word is pronounced the same as in English.
