Change in French primarily refers to foreign exchange — le taux de change (the exchange rate), un bureau de change (a currency exchange office). As a general noun meaning 'change/alteration', it is less common in modern usage, where changement is preferred. Do not confuse with la monnaie (coins/small change) or la modification.
