toute

all, every (feminine form)

determiner toot Less Common

Usage Note

Toute is the feminine singular form of tout, functioning as a determiner ('toute la journée' - 'all day') or as a pronoun. As an adverb meaning 'completely' it modifies adjectives and is normally invariable, though it agrees before feminine adjectives beginning with a consonant or aspirate h: toute petite ('very small'). It should not be confused with tous (masculine plural) or toutes (feminine plural).

Examples
