Also means
fault
Usage Note
Tort is almost always used in set phrases rather than alone. Avoir tort means 'to be wrong' (contrasted with avoir raison, 'to be right'). Donner tort à quelqu'un means 'to prove someone wrong'. À tort means 'wrongly', and à tort et à travers means 'haphazardly' or 'without thinking'. The final -t is silent.
