Bafouer implies publicly humiliating someone or contemptuously disregarding something valued, such as rules or dignity. It is stronger than se moquer and carries a sense of deliberate disrespect. Often used with abstract objects: bafouer les droits de quelqu'un (to trample on someone's rights).
