Usage Note

Tata is the familiar, affectionate word children use for their aunt, parallel to tonton (uncle). It is considered informal and is mainly used in family speech. The standard word for aunt is tante. In some regions of France and in colloquial speech, tata can also refer loosely to any older female relative.
