Usage Note

Surf is used in French both for the ocean surf (waves) and for the sport of surfing ('faire du surf' = to go surfing). The practitioner is a surfeur/surfeuse. The compound surf des neiges is an older term for snowboarding, though snowboard has largely replaced it. 'Surfer sur Internet' is also standard for browsing the web.
