aller

to go

verb ah-LEH Common

Usage Note

Aller builds the everyday near-future tense, so je vais manger means you're about to eat, much like the English 'going to'. It also greets you everywhere in comment ça va?, and a shouted allez! works as a cheer or an impatient 'come on!'.

Examples

"Je vais à Paris."

Natural Translation

I'm going to Paris.
