Usage Note

Préjudice is a legal and formal term for harm or damage caused to someone's interests, reputation, or rights. The standard phrase is porter préjudice à quelqu'un ('to cause harm to someone'). It should not be confused with préjugé ('prejudice' in the sense of bias or stereotype), which is a completely different word.
