Also means
oriental
Usage Note
Oriental agrees in gender and number: feminine orientale, plural orientaux / orientales. It describes geographic direction (the eastern part of a region) but can also evoke Asian or Middle Eastern cultural aesthetics in older texts. In modern French, the directional sense (l'Europe orientale) is neutral; the cultural sense is increasingly avoided as dated.
Examples
"Le quartier oriental de la ville est très animé."
Natural Translation
The eastern district of the city is very lively.
