Usage Note
Malaria is a French medical term for the disease, identical to English. In French the standard and far more common term is le paludisme, from Latin palus (swamp), while malaria derives from Italian mal'aria ('bad air'). The adjective paludéen / paludéenne describes things related to the disease.
