Usage Note
Légal has a regular feminine form légale and a masculine plural légaux. It is distinct from légaliste (one who strictly follows the law) and légitime (legitimate/morally justified). Légalement is the adverb. The noun légalité means 'legality' — rester dans la légalité means 'to stay within the law.'
