glander

to loaf, slack off

verb glahn-DEH Rare

Usage Note

Glander is informal French for doing nothing productive — loafing around or wasting time. It is the same register as English 'to bum around.' The related verb glandouiller is even more emphatic and equally colloquial. Both are used comfortably in casual conversation but avoided in formal writing.

Examples

"Il a glandé toute la journée sans rien faire."

Natural Translation

He loafed around all day without doing anything.
