Usage Note

Fret is the standard commercial and shipping term for freight or cargo charges. Note that the final 't' is silent. The verb fréter means 'to charter' a vessel or vehicle. Fret aérien means air freight, while fret maritime is sea freight. Do not confuse with the musical frette (guitar fret).
