Usage Note
Fanfan is an affectionate, childlike reduplication used to address or refer to a young child, similar to 'little one' or 'kiddo.' It is informal and tender in register. The word was popularised in France by the 1952 film Fanfan la Tulipe, and the name retains a playful, nostalgic flavour.
Examples
