Usage Note
Enfance is an uncountable feminine noun with no plural. It spans the period from birth to adolescence. Dès l'enfance means 'from childhood'; ami d'enfance is 'childhood friend'. The adjective enfantin means 'childlike' or 'childish', and enfanter (literary) means 'to give birth'.
