Usage Note
Digestion refers to the physiological process of breaking down food in the body, identical in scope to its English counterpart. The verb digérer ('to digest') is widely used both literally and figuratively, e.g. je n'arrive pas à digérer cette nouvelle ('I can't stomach that news'). Digestif (digestive liqueur taken after a meal) is a culturally important related term in French dining.
Examples
