Usage Note
Dedans means 'inside' and is often paired with dehors (outside) for contrast. It can stand alone (il est dedans, he is inside) or follow là (là-dedans, in there). As a preposition it is old-fashioned; modern French prefers à l'intérieur de. The form is invariable.
Examples
"Il fait froid, rentrons dedans."
Natural Translation
It is cold, let's go inside.
Literal Translation
It makes cold, let-us-return inside
