Usage Note
Travers is almost always found in fixed phrases: à travers means 'through' or 'across' (à travers la forêt — through the forest), and de travers means 'askew' or 'wrong' (tout va de travers — everything is going wrong). As a standalone noun it can mean a fault or quirk in someone's character.
