Usage Note

Damné describes a soul condemned to hell, or more generally someone or something accursed. Les damnés de la terre ('the wretched of the earth') is a famous phrase from Frantz Fanon's work. Used before a noun as an intensifier in informal speech, it can express strong frustration: ce damné travail (this damn job). The feminine is damnée.
