Usage Note

Abomination is a strong term expressing extreme moral disgust or the thing that provokes it. It is used in religious contexts (as in the biblical phrase l'abomination de la désolation) but also in everyday emphatic speech to describe anything considered revolting. The verb is abominer and the adjective is abominable, which also has a milder colloquial sense of 'terrible'.
