Usage Note

Cyanure refers to cyanide compounds, most notoriously potassium cyanide (cyanure de potassium). The name derives from the blue pigment Prussian blue from which it was first isolated. It appears in crime fiction and historical accounts, and in chemistry it names the CN⁻ ion.
