Usage Note
Coin literally means corner (le coin de la rue, the corner of the street) and informally means a local area or neighbourhood (le coin, the area/around here). Du coin means local — le boulanger du coin is the local baker. The expression mettre quelqu'un au coin (to put someone in the corner) refers to the traditional punishment for children. Coin-coin is the French equivalent of 'quack quack'.
