Usage Note
calorie is used in everyday French exactly as in English — on food labels and in diet talk. The adjective calorique means 'high-calorie' or relates to heat energy in physics. In scientific contexts the large calorie (kilocalorie) is sometimes called a grande calorie to distinguish it from the physical unit.
