balade

stroll, outing

noun bah-LAD Rare

Usage Note

Balade (informal) means a leisurely walk or trip and is a homophone of ballade (a literary or musical ballad) — the two are unrelated. It is used for walks, bike rides, or short drives taken for pleasure. Don't confuse une balade en voiture (a drive) with une ballade (a poem or song form).

Examples

"On fait une balade en forêt ce matin."

Natural Translation

We're going for a walk in the forest this morning.
