Adjudant is a specific non-commissioned officer rank in the French army, equivalent roughly to 'warrant officer' in English-speaking armies. It sits above sergent-chef and below adjudant-chef. The feminine is adjudante. In informal address, French soldiers often shorten it to adjud.
