Usage Note
Égarer means to mislay an object or to lead someone off the right path, physically or morally. The reflexive s'égarer ('to get lost') is very common in speech — it applies to a person losing their way, a conversation going off track, or reasoning becoming confused. Égaré as an adjective describes a lost or bewildered look.
