Usage Note

Été is the French word for summer and is also the past participle of être ('to be') — the two are identical in writing. Context always makes the meaning clear. En été means 'in summer'. L'été de la Saint-Martin is the French equivalent of 'Indian summer' (a warm spell in autumn).

Examples

"Nous partons en vacances en été."

We leave in vacation in summer
