Usage Note
Troupeau is used for herds of cattle, sheep, or goats, and figuratively for a crowd moving passively together. Its plural is troupeaux (following the regular -eau → -eaux pattern). The related noun le troupier is an archaic word for a common soldier, and troupe refers to a group of performers or soldiers.
