Usage Note
Troisième is both an ordinal adjective ('third floor' = troisième étage) and a noun (le troisième = 'the third one'). In French schools, la troisième is the final year of collège (roughly age 14-15), equivalent to Year 9 in the UK. The abbreviation is 3e or 3ème.
