Tourtereau literally names a young tourterelle (turtledove), but in everyday French tourtereaux (always plural in this sense) refers affectionately — sometimes mockingly — to a couple who are visibly in love and constantly canoodling. The plural follows the -eau/-eaux pattern: tourtereaux.
