Usage Note

Aigle is masculine when referring to the actual bird (un aigle royal — golden eagle) but can be feminine as a heraldic or symbolic figure (une aigle impériale). Avoir un regard d'aigle means 'to have eagle eyes'. The French national and Napoleonic symbol featured the eagle prominently.
