Usage Note
Touffe describes a compact cluster of plants, hair, or grass (une touffe d'herbe — a tuft of grass, une touffe de cheveux — a clump of hair). The adjective touffu (bushy, dense) is derived from it and commonly describes overgrown vegetation or a very thick beard.
