Usage Note

Terrer (most often se terrer) means to hide oneself in a burrow or to go into hiding, used both literally of animals (le lapin se terre) and figuratively of people avoiding others. The noun terrier (burrow) is closely related. The reflexive se terrer is far more common than the transitive form.
