accourir

to come running, to rush over

verb ah-koo-REER Rare

Usage Note

Accourir means to rush to a place in response to something — elle a accouru dès qu'elle a entendu le cri ('she came running as soon as she heard the scream'). It conjugates with être in compound tenses: elle est accourue. The prefix ac- intensifies the idea of movement toward a point.

Examples

"Il a accouru quand il a entendu l'alarme."

Natural Translation

He came running when he heard the alarm.
