Usage Note
Supermarché is the standard word for a large grocery store. A larger store is called un hypermarché. The shortened informal form le super is occasionally used in spoken French. Supermarkets in France are commonly closed on Sundays, a fact that surprises many visitors.
Examples
"Je fais mes courses au supermarché le samedi."
Natural Translation
I do my shopping at the supermarket on Saturdays.
