Acide functions as both a noun (un acide, 'an acid') and an adjective ('acidic, tart'). In food contexts, un goût acide describes a sharp or sour taste. The related adjective acidulé means 'slightly sour' (e.g. bonbons acidulés, 'fizzy/sour sweets'). Acide aminé ('amino acid') is a key biochemistry term.
