exact, precise
Usage Note
Strict (feminine stricte) is pronounced with the final 't' audible, unlike many French adjectives. In the phrase au sens strict it means 'in the strict/exact sense'. It applies to people (un professeur strict), rules (une règle stricte), and interpretations. The adverb is strictement, as in strictement interdit (strictly forbidden).
Examples
"Elle est stricte mais juste avec ses élèves."
Natural Translation
She is strict but fair with her students.
