sous-titrage

subtitling

noun soo-tee-TRAHZH Less Common

Usage Note

Sous-titrage is the professional term for the process of adding subtitles to film or television content. The individual subtitles themselves are les sous-titres. France has a strong tradition of dubbing (doublage) foreign films rather than subtitling them, so sous-titrage is often associated with cinema for the deaf or with original-language screenings.

Examples

"Le sous-titrage de ce film a pris plusieurs semaines."

Natural Translation

The subtitling of this film took several weeks.
