Usage Note
Shampoing is the French adaptation of the English 'shampoo', which itself came from Hindi champo (to press/massage). Note the French spelling retains the '-ing' but is pronounced shahm-PWAHN without the /ŋ/ sound. It can refer to the product or the act of washing: faire un shampoing means 'to shampoo (one's hair)'. An alternative spelling shampooing is also accepted.
