security
Usage Note
Sûreté is feminine and refers to safety in a formal or institutional sense — la Sûreté nationale was the French national police force. It is distinct from sécurité, which is used more broadly for everyday security. Mettre en sûreté means 'to put in a safe place'. The adjective sûr/sûre (safe, sure) is the root.
