résonner

to resonate, to ring out

verb reh-zo-NEH Rare

Origin: Latin resonare

Usage Note

résonner means to produce or carry a resonant sound — a bell résonne, a room résonne. Do not confuse it with raisonner (to reason), which sounds similar. The figurative use 'to resonate emotionally' also exists: ses paroles ont résonné en moi.

Examples

"Sa voix résonnait dans la salle vide."

Natural Translation

His voice resonated in the empty room.
