rocket (missile)

noun roh-KEHT Rare

Usage Note

Rocket is an anglicism used in military and journalistic French for a rocket-propelled projectile or missile; the everyday and recommended term is the feminine roquette. The salad leaf called 'rocket' in British English is roquette in French, never spelled rocket, so do not confuse the two. As the missile borrowing it is masculine: un rocket.
