Usage Note

Pèlerin refers to a religious traveler on a pèlerinage (pilgrimage), most famously the Camino de Santiago (le chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle). The feminine form is la pèlerine, which also means a cape or hooded cloak. In informal speech pèlerin can humorously describe any wandering or persistent visitor.
