Usage Note

Pulmonaire is the medical adjective for anything relating to the lungs: une embolie pulmonaire (pulmonary embolism), la circulation pulmonaire (pulmonary circulation). It is invariable for gender (une artère pulmonaire). In botany, la pulmonaire (lungwort) is a flowering plant whose spotted leaves were historically thought to resemble lung tissue.
