Usage Note

Promener is used both transitively (promener le chien, 'to walk the dog') and reflexively (se promener, 'to go for a walk'). The reflexive form se promener is the more common everyday expression for leisure walking. A noun derived from it is promenade, meaning a walk or a walkway.
