Usage Note

Présence works much like the English cognate but is also used in the phrase en présence de (in the presence of) and feuille de présence (attendance sheet). Avoir de la présence is an idiomatic compliment meaning someone has a commanding or charismatic stage presence. The antonym is l'absence.
