Usage Note

Abruti is a fairly strong, colloquial insult derived from the verb abrutir (to dull, to stupefy). It implies the person is stupefied rather than simply unintelligent. The feminine form is une abrutie. Slightly softer alternatives include idiot or imbécile, while connard is considerably harsher.
